Visit the Strange Beauty of The Pinnacles

The Strange Beauty of the Pinnacles

The Strange Beauty of the Pinnacles

Last month we blogged about whale watching near Perth, something Perth visitors can do in a few hours. This month we look at an attraction a little further from Perth, but still accessible in a couple of hours’ drive in our luxury vehicles.

We’re talking about the Pinnacles, one of the stranger phenomena Western Australia has inherited from its ancient past. To be found in the desert hinterland of the coastal town of Cervantes, they are limestone formations within the Nambung National Park, about 200km north of Perth.

The Pinnacles are fascinating to visit for three reasons. Firstly, the fact that the general public was unaware of their existence until 1967 is reminder of how young our nation is, and how vast and ancient the land it occupies. Secondly, nobody seems to agree on the process that formed them – there are three competing theories. But the chief appeal of the Pinnacles lies in their strange beauty.

As the Pinnacles are in a National Park, heavy transport vehicles may not be used to visit them. Our luxury 4x4s, however, are permitted, so you will see a great deal of this astonishing geological feature, stopping whenever you want to take photos or look closer at a particularly interesting formation.

The best time  to visit the Pinnacles is Springtime, from August to October, when you’ll see the desert wildflowers blooming. It takes a little under two and a half hours to drive from Perth to the Pinnacles, but we usually break the trip at Lancelin, famed for its crayfish and for its gigantic sand dunes.

The great thing about sightseeing with Perth Luxury Tours is that we aren’t on a fixed schedule, so if you want to take the rare opportunity to experience the joys of organised sandboarding while you’re in Lancelin, you can. And you probably will – we’re proud to boast a lady of 84 among the clients we have launched down the slopes!

A typical visit to the Pinnacles goes something like this:

  • Pickup by Perth Luxury Tours from your Perth hotel – 8 am
  • Stop at Lancelin for morning tea -9:30 am
  • Arrive at Cervantes – in time for lunch
  • Visit the Pinnacles
  • Depart for Perth – around 3pm,
  • Arrive back at your hotel around 5:30pm

Of course this schedule can be adapted to your needs and preferences.  If you’d like to visit the Pinnacles during your visit to Perth, send us a contact request here.
