7 of Perth’s Bets Sunset Picnic Spots

Serpentine Falls

About an hours drive from Perth CBD, the Serpentine National Park amongst the southern Perth Hills presents a beautiful green get-away from the hustle-and-bustle of the city. The main attraction is the Serpentine Falls which runs over a sloped boulder and in to a pool of the Serpentine River – creating a popular place to spend the day picnicking, swimming and enjoying nature. The picnic area includes shaded tables, barbeques and toilet facilities, and a short walk to the top of the ridge reveals stunning views of the falls, and the Perth skyline… a great sunset spot!

Watermans Bay

Somewhat of a local secret, just up the coast from North Beach is a rather quant little picnic spot, complete with grassy area, playground and BBQs. Even during the peak of summer you can usually avoid the crowds at Watermans Bay, and be able to grab a free BBQ and uninterrupted ocean views… the perfect spot for an evening meal and to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean

Noble Falls

Hardly big enough to be considered a ‘waterfall’, Noble Falls near Gidgegannup is nonetheless a beautiful picnic destination just under an hours drive from Perth. The cascading water flows over low granite rocks to make for a fun swimming environment, almost like a natural water park. There is a popular large picnic spot and playground, or many other smaller secluded spots for a picnic and a splash-around. Walk trails throughout the surrounding bushland reveal many good vantage points for stunning views of the falls and surrounding countryside.

Zig Zag Lookout

The top of Zig Zag Hill in Gooseberry National Park offers some of the most amazing views of Perth, particularly nice in the evening as the sun sets over the city and the Perth lights begin to flicker. The sweeping panorama views provide the beautiful backdrop for a picnic, and afterward the winding Zig Zag Scenic Drive makes for the perfect finish to the perfect picnic.

Swan River Foreshore

You don’t have to travel far from Perth to find great views and picnic spots… in fact, just across the Swan River on the South Perth Foreshore there are many open grassed picnic areas on the water with ample facilities, and infamous views across the river at the Perth City. A popular sunset picnic spot for a date night!

Fraser Avenue Park (Kings Park & Botanical Gardens)

Of course we couldn’t make a picnic list in Perth without including the cities favourite Kings Park and Botanical Gardens, offering unbeatable view of the city skyline, with amazing sunset/sunrise photos to be captured as the light fades over the city and river. Surrounded by the Botanical Gardens, Fraser Avenue Park (part of Kings Park) features a man-made lake and cascading stream, lemon scented gums lining the avenue and lushes green laws offering plentiful picnic areas, nearby the war memorial and looking over the city.

Cottesloe Beach

Under 30 minutes from Perth CBD, the Cottesloe Beach is one of Perth’s favourite picnic spots, with sand, sunny laws, shading trees and a beautifully undisturbed view off the west coast. The Cottesloe Civic Centre adds grand Spanish Mission style buildings to the landscape, and includes barbeques, a gazebo and playgrounds.
