Located only an hour’s drive from Perth, the Shire of Chittering offers ample opportunity to spot the beautiful wildflowers in their abundance during Spring and early Summer.
Picking up from your accommodation at 08.30am, we take a leisurely drive through the beautiful Swan Valley, North to Chittering Valley nestled in the northern hills of the Darling Range – a picturesque gateway into WA’s Wheatbelt region.
Taking its name from the reserve’s abundant grasstrees, our first stop is Blackboy Ridge. We commence with a pleasant 1.5km walk (approx. 45 mins return) along this established and popular walk trail. Spot and take pictures of the numerous fauna, flora and wildflowers in bloom including Cowslip & China Orchids, Little Kangaroo Paw, Catspaw, Purple Flag and much much more. Before reaching the final ascent, pass through the hillsides abundant in blackboys looking particularly attractive in Spring.
The final ascent around the side of the ridge leads to a lookout. From here you will see spectacular views of the Chittering Valley.
We then make our way to Bindoon located within a 20 minutes drive where you will enjoy lunch at the popular Bindoon Bakehaus & Café before continuing our journey North East to New Norcia – Australia’s only Benedictine township.
Join an experienced local guide for a town tour and be amazed by the unique history, artworks, distinctive Spanish influenced architecture and beautiful interior woodworks and frescoes on display throughout the monastery and other buildings in the town.
Following your tour to be amazed by the monastery memorabilia, art collections, priceless manuscripts and religious artefacts on display at the Museum and Art Gallery. Browse through the Gift Shop where you may well be tempted by the locally produced bread, cake, olive oil & wine products available for purchase.
We then make our way back to Perth arriving back at your accommodation around 6.00pm.
